Jones-Bey, Director of the Division of Minority and Women’s
Business Development for the State of New York
Michael
H. Jones-Bey was recently appointed to the position of Director
of the Division of Minority and Women’s Business Development
for the State of New York. Prior to this appointment Michael
worked for Lt. Governor (then Senator) David Paterson since
1993 in several capacities including Special Assistant, Director
of Press Operations and most recently Chief of Staff to the
Senate Democratic Conference. As Chief of Staff he managed
a 140 person operation with an annual budget of $13 million.
While on the Senator’s staff Michael also served as
his designee on the Executive Board of the Harlem Community
Development Corporation. As a volunteer on David Paterson’s
Lt. Governor campaign, Michael conducted a national survey
of best practices for effective MWBE programs. Michael’s
business related experience includes Director of a New York
State sponsored Entrepreneurial Assistance Program (EAP) where
he provided business consulting, and business plan preparation.
He also helped to start a minority contracting company and
a minority owned import-export company. As a consultant and
entrepreneur Michael has written business plans that have
received private investment financing. Michael majored in
Business administration with a concentration in marketing
at Northeastern University where he received his B.S. degree.
Michael has been married for 10 years to his wife Suzette
and they are the proud parents of son Michael Jr. born September
1, 2006.
